1804 - There were 3,206 Europeans, 4,924 Hottentots and 924 slaves registered in the Graaff-Reinet district.

1860 - The Public Library in Graaff-Reinet stayed open till late. Candles provided light and later in 1868 oil-lamps came into use.

1881 - 12 hotels were in existence in Graaff-Reinet. The reason being that the discovery of Diamonds in Kimberley led to a bigger demand for accommodation facilities, since Graaff-Reinet was on-route to Kimberley.

1884 - Graaff-Reinet was the fourth largest town in the Cape.

1886 - Graaff-Reinet's received an unusual centenary in July this year in the form of a snowstorm.

1911 - The population of Graaff-Reinet consisted of 7,395 Europeans, 7,013 coloured and 4,988 Africans.

1941 - In May the government restricted the use of white flour, due to the shortage resulting from WWII.

1951 - The population of the magisterial district of Graaff-Reinet consisted of 6,603 Europeans, 11,860 coloured, 7,360 Africans, 44 Indians and 10 Malays.
